We provide the top 12 smartphones and tablets currently available for purchase and layout a timeline of what happened this month, and what events are quickly approaching.

In a press release from Toyota on August 23rd, Bob Carter Group Vice President and General Manager – Toyota Division talked about Entune.

“One of the key features today’s consumers are looking for is information and entertainment. But it can be a challenge to design a safe, easy to use system in an automobile.  Toyota’s answer is our exclusive Entune multimedia system and Camry will be among the first to have it. The key to Entune is its conversational voice recognition system that helped it earn a best-in-class rating at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (Read here for more details on the best-in-class rating).  For a distraction-free motoring environment Entune takes the phone out of the driver’s hand, leave it in the console or put it in your purse and you’re still connected. You’ll find Entune to be safe, simple, intuitive, compatible and upgradeable.”

The Camry was revealed this week, and will be on sale this Fall. Entune is also available in the 2012 Prius V, for a hands-on look at the system watch this video.

The new Lexus GS 350 will come with built-in connected car features similar to the Entune system. SMS text-to-speech and Facebook integration have been added to enhance the infotainment system. Continuous updates and upgrades through over-the-air downloads keep the technology current.

The focus of the July issue of Mobile Connect is smartphones. Smartphone OS fragmentation has made it challenging to deploy native apps across all devices. Because of that, companies and developers are considering relying on mobile web as an alternate strategy to developing native apps.

The cover story this month is “Native App or Mobile Web”. Travis Beaven, COO of UIE, discusses the ongoing debate between Native Applications and Mobile Web, the dream of “write once, run everywhere”, and the important factors to consider when developing a mobile strategy.
